ROYAL ROADS PAVERSTONE PROJECT UPDATE
Information provided by: 3334 DaveWightman
The Royal Roads Paverstone project began in 2010 and was established to commemorate the 55 year military legacy of Royal Roads. The paverstones represent the young Officer Cadets who served at Royal Roads between 1940 and 1995 and all other personnel, military or civilian, who helped prepare them for service to their country. The pavers are 12″ x 6″ granite stones engraved with the name and number of each ex-cadet and the title and name of each member of the staff. Anyone who served at Royal Roads between 1940 and 1995 is eligible to order a paverstone in his or her name for a donation of $200.
At the end of 2015 there were a total of 954 engraved pavers installed around the restored mast located near the former Vice Commandant residence. For the 2016 installation in late August we have set a goal of 1000 total installed stones. Each year more and more former cadets and staff visit the mast site and spend time remembering their friends and their youth.
Why not be part of the Guard of Honour that greets them?
All donations go to the Military Heritage Fund and all are fully tax deductible. The Fund nets over $100 per stone after expenses. Adding generous support from RRU and other donors, the Paverstone Project has contributed almost $200,000 to the restoration and preservation of items which reflect the military history of Royal Roads.
There are now two easy ways to donate for a stone or contribute to the fund.
